Meet Simona

Simona is as passionate about growing her community as she is about growing food in a natural earthy way. Building resilient communities, advocating for sustainability, and promoting diversity are solid pillars in her life. Since 2017, Simona has found herself leading a community garden network in the Grey/Bruce region. She has assumed responsibility for their famous Gleaning Program, growing and strengthening it as she has done with the gardens. Interesting in growing people as fruits and vegetables all of her outdoor and food growing events are interactive and include children, youth, adults, and seniors from every part of the wider community.

Simona recognizes that food security, community health, and environmental sustainability are closely interconnected elements that need to be addressed on an individual as well as at the community level. To accomplish this, she facilitates volunteers and good-growing ambassadors to bring fresh and local produce to the vulnerable community members throughout Grey/Bruce. Her garden network includes more than fifteen community gardens, local farmers and farmers’ cooperatives, food advocates, food banks, community meal programs, local businesses, and partners such as the United Way of Bruce Grey, as well as green projects with Transition Meaford. Guiding and shaping this network is her contribution to respect the Earth, respect her people, and to share her surpluses.
