About This Event

Discover the surprises of Ground-Nesting Bees.

Dr. Susan Chan

Did you know that 70% of all bee species nest in the ground? In fact, ground-nesting bees are the most diverse group of wild bees in North America. We will learn about their fascinating life history, social organization, life cycle, and importance in pollination. The Hoary Squash Bee which has played an intricate role in ancient and modern human food systems and culture will be highlighted.

Susan, an internationally regarded expert in the field of ground-nesting pollinators, is an agroecologist, a pollination biologist and an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph. A bee keeper and a poet, she lives and works in Peterborough.
