The Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory (BPBO) has a long history at Cabot Head. It began in August 1996, when Ted Cheskey conducted some initial bird banding at the Cabot Head Lighthouse. In 2000, due to the high number of tourists and disturbance at the lighthouse location, the banding location moved to the current site on Wingfield Basin. From these beginnings, grew BPBO.
